Vacation Setting Adds To The Fun At Indiana SAAC Shelby Spring Fling

NASHVILLE, IN – The annual Indiana SAAC Shelby Spring Fling has become a Ford fan favorite event for years now, thanks to a great mix of both cars and people that have combined to make this a can’t-miss show. Held in beautiful Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana, about an hour south of Indianapolis, Spring Fling has become a draw for owners of Shelby, Mustang and Ford-powered vehicles from all around the Midwest. Indeed, the Indiana Shelby American Automobile Club’s Spring Fling is not just a cool Ford show, but it also serves as a great family weekend getaway thanks the picturesque Abe Martin Lodge, a throwback to classic vacations of yesteryear.Ford F-150 in red with lights on roof

It’s not just the “journey” that’s enjoyable as you make your way across the Interstates to the southern half of Indiana before finding yourself getting fully engaged in the snakelike turns of State Road 135. But the “destination” is the big reward, as there’s something magical about hearing a GT350’s exhaust note bouncing off the forest trees in a curvy, mountainous state park. Upon the Indiana SAAC’s formation in 1977, the Shelby Spring Fling quickly became a Brown County staple that has continued for well over 40 years. Owning a Shelby (AC Cobra or Shelby Mustang) is certainly not a requirement to attend the Spring Fling, but it does put you among the unique in the crowd.Ford GT's at show

Events begin Friday and continue through Sunday. It starts with a “Pony Tails & Lunch,” where a group cruises along twisty back roads with a lunch destination and loads of opportunities to stop for scenic photos. That first night there’s a big Welcome Bash, complete with registration, door prizes, raffles, welcome kits and club member meet-ups to cap off a great day of driving. Saturday is the big show down at the pool parking area. Cars are parked in their respective 35-plus classes to make popular voting on various Mustangs and Fords simple for the participants, with Concours Judging available for early generation Shelby vehicles. The show also includes select vendors and a cookout lunch picnic. Once the show concludes at 5 p.m. it’s back up to the Abe Martin Lodge for the dinner banquet. This includes a guest speaker, a few specialty awards presented by the Board of Directors, recognition for tenured members and the awards presentation from the show.White Ford Mustang

This year we had our go-to Ford Performance photographer, Bill Cook, attend the Spring Fling, and he snapped plenty of photos from the more than 200 Fords in attendance.
