LIVONIA, MI – Ford enthusiasts in the Detroit metropolitan area know there are many more automotive attractions around town than simply the Henry Ford Museum at Greenfield Village or perhaps the Ford Piquette Plant off of Woodward Avenue where the Model T was born. Indeed, the region is home to the MotorCities National Heritage Area (MCNHA), a non-profit dedicated to preservation and promotion of Detroit’s rich automotive history. Savvy visitors check with the MCNHA to get the skinny on some of the cool car places to see when they come to town. One such cool car place that’s become a fan favorite is the Roush Automotive Collection Retail Store & Museum along Market Street in the Detroit suburb of Livonia, Michigan. The store features a selection of authentic race car parts and body panels from the NASCAR Roush-Fenway teams available for purchase as well as all sorts of Roush merch and memorabilia, and the adjacent Roush Museum holds a treasure trove of more than 100 one-off specialty Fords and prototypes – many that hold a special place in Ford history.
Not to be confused with the Roush Clean Tech and Roush Performance facilities which are not open to the public, the Roush Automotive Collection Retail Store & Museum is generally open Monday through Friday from (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST (appointments are preferred for tours). When the International Thunderbird Club hosted its mega-reunion in Dearborn last August, one of the activities the club had arranged for attendees was a tour of Jack Roush’s car collection at the Roush Museum. Jeff Burgy, our own Ford super enthusiast and SAAC-MCR Club founder who himself owns a Thunderbird, was on site with his camera looking to capture some of the cool rides he spotted in the collection. He shares some of his favorites for you to enjoy in the gallery below:
