UTICA, Mich. -- Once a year prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise in suburban Detroit, authorities in Utica, Michigan, block off a portion of one of the main streets in their Downtown area, Auburn Road, to host a car show they call the Gasoline Alley Show. Well, technically it’s called the “Gasoline Alley Car Show and Gas Show.” Let us explain.
With Ford’s own “Mustang Alley” off Woodward in Ferndale, Michigan, making such headlines during the big cruise each summer, we get the part about calling this show “Gasoline Alley.” But what’s the “Gas Show” part, you might ask?
Well, that’s that part of the show where the owner of a local business called USA Tire opens up his entire collection of "petroliana" (gas pumps, oil cans, gas station signs, memorabilia and the like) to the general public as part of the Gasoline Alley show. With Auburn Road filled with all sorts of classic and collector cars, we found our fair share of Fords at the show. The same can be said of the adjacent parking lots. Our roving photographer, Ford retiree and super-enthusiast Bill Cook, was there with camera in hand, and got his fill of great photos to share with us below:
