GROSSE ILE, MI – Members of the Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) always seem to have plenty choices when it comes to attending cool club events each year, but one of the more recent annual events on the MOCSEM calendar is quickly becoming a favorite. That’s why such a wide variety of Mustangs took part in this year’s trek to the club’s Show-n-Cruise at the Ford Yacht Club on the island community of Grosse Ile, Michigan, situated at the southern delta of the Detroit River.
No, the yacht club is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company, although more than a few of its members happen to be current or retired Ford employees. One such retiree, none other than former Ford Design VP Jack Telnack (yes, of Fox Body Mustang fame), has been inviting MOCSEM to the yacht club the last few years as a way to get a one-day jump on the club’s annual participation in what’s known as the “Downriver Cruise” along old Fort Street on the following Saturday. Although rain made an early appearance on this year’s cruise-in date of Friday, June 28, 2019, it made a hasty departure before the participants arrived at the FYC. And yes, Mr. Telnack himself was there to witness the array of Mustangs roll into their parking spaces on the manicured front lawn of the yacht club.
The breeze blowing off the Detroit River did well to cut the humidity hanging in the air. Frosty A/C inside the clubhouse also provided respite from the heat, where chilled beverages were available for show participants. Some 100 area Mustangers cruised to the yacht club for a mini-show at the tip of Lake Erie, and then enjoyed a cookout of burgers, hot dogs and brats before taking a cruise all around the island. The continued success of MOCSEM’s event at the Ford Yacht Club on Grosse Ile makes it likely we’ll see Mustangs re-appear here next year. For now, take a look at the photos we took of some of the fine Mustangs that graced the club grounds in our exclusive gallery below:
