DEARBORN - Team Shelby Northeast and Lehigh Valley SAAC have been working with the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia to produce, “Shelby: The Trans-Am Years 1966-68” panel discussion and book-signing event set for Saturday, November 18 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. The museum’s website promo says it all:

“When Carroll Shelby was unwillingly tasked with turning a ‘Secretary’s Car’ into one of the most prolific muscle cars of all time, he turned to one man – Chuck Cantwell. Join us as we welcome Chuck back to The Simeone on November 18th at 12 p.m. for a one-time-only special appearance. This is your opportunity to learn first-hand the real history of the Shelby Mustang from the man behind the machine. Take part in a wide ranging discussion on the development of the car built to beat Chevy’s Corvette.

“Along for the ride will be co-author Greg Kolasa. Greg is considered to be one of the foremost experts on Shelby and the Registrar of ‘60s Ford GT40 and the ’60s Hertz Shelby Mustangs. “Shelby Mustang GT350: My Years Designing, Testing and Racing Carroll’s Legendary Mustangs” examines the history making moments that led to the development and execution of one the most iconic sports cars of all time. Tickets are free with regular admission to the museum. The program begins sharply at noon and will feature both a discussion and book signing. Books will be available on site for purchase and signing.”

Team Shelby invites all Ford and Shelby club members and owners to drive their Shelby Mustangs to the museum, as there will be a Team Shelby / SAAC parking area where the vehicles will be displayed in a casual "cars & coffee" type atmosphere. While Cantwell and Kolasa’s book covers the entire range of early Shelby-built Mustangs, the discussion at the Simeone will focus on the Trans Am effort from 1966 to 1968. As noted, the program begins at noon, and while reservations are recommended, entry is included with regular museum admission. For additional details, or to make a reservation, visit SimeoneMuseum.org/Events/Shelby-Trans-Years. Sounds like this is one event that any Mustang fan would enjoy!

In other Team Shelby news, the club has announced that Track Registration for the 2018 Team Shelby East Coast Grand Nationals at Summit Point Raceway is now open. Team Shelby and HOD Northeast have joined forces to bring you a day of High Performance Driving at Summit Point Raceway (WV) on Thursday, May 31st, 2018. This is the opening event of the 2018 Team Shelby East Coast Grand Nationals. First time 'track rats' as well as experienced HPDE aficionados are invited. There will be instructors available for both classroom and in-car instruction, multiple run groups based on skill level, lunchtime parade laps, and even a car show in the paddock for those attending but not tracking.

New for this year are Touring Lap sessions for Ford Performance vehicles, which will bridge the adrenalin gap between the lunchtime Parade Laps and the all-out performance driving experience. These will be at "brisk" speeds behind a pace car; there is no passing in the Touring laps group. This is a great way to get a taste of the track without committing to a full track day.

Please consider joining Team Shelby for the whole weekend, as Summit Point is just the beginning of a four-day adventure including a 100+ mile poker run/cruise, car shows, banquets and presentations from Shelby American and special Shelby related guests, plus a live-bid charity auction, parades, a surprise Saturday evening program, and participation in the Carlisle Ford Nationals. Lunch will be provided to registered drivers and those registered for the East Coast Grand Nationals. Lunch tickets for attendees not tracking a car, or not part of the Grand National event, can be purchased at track check-in/registration.

After January 1, 2018, the early bird price of $299 for Novice's will increase, so register now to take advantage of the early bird pricing! If the club can fill the track with just Shelby and Ford Performance vehicles by that date, the track sessions will remain Shelby/Ford exclusive. If spaces are still available after the New Year, they will be offered to all makes and models who want to come out and play with Team Shelby. Sign up now HERE and consider that this would make an excellent holiday gift idea for that Shelby enthusiast on your shopping list!

Still want to catch a club-sponsored car show before you put your prized pony away for the winter? Then head down to Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday, November 18, for the Fall Celebration Open Car Show at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi, sponsored by the Mississippi Coast Mustang Club. All proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish and other South Mississippi charities. If Sunday is your only day to play that weekend, then go check out the Ponies under the Palms Mustang and Ford Show on November 19 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The show id hosted by the Mustang Club of West Central Florida, with proceeds benefiting the Southeastern Guide Dogs and Take Stock in Children charities. Click on the web links for details.

That same November 17-18-19 weekend you’ll find the annual Moultrie Swap Meet, a three-day automotive event where you can find car parts, tools, literature, equipment, antique and performance [arts, jewelry, crafts, clothing, candles, women's accessories, collectible and special-interest Items. The Car Corral offers hundreds of vehicles displayed for sale. Moultrie Swap Meet is held at Spence Field in Moultrie and is billed as “The South's Fastest Growing Swap Meet” with 70,000 square feet of indoor vendor spaces and more than 4,000 outside spaces. There’s also over 50 Acres of free parking, free parts hauling (although tips are allowed and encouraged), 24-hour security, plus plenty of good food and multiple restroom facilities. There’s even a 5,000-foot airstrip on site for added convenience.

November 18 and 19 are also the days for the annual Muscle Car Nationals, held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center of Rosemont, Illinois, in suburban Chicago. This year’s Muscle Car extravaganza features the “Kars of Kar Kraft Invitational.” Most Ford fans know that Kar-Kraft’s story doesn’t begin and end with the GT40 that took the win away from Ferrari at Le Mans. Cars were prepared for Trans-Am, NASCAR, NHRA, and Can-Am competition with Mustangs, Talladegas/Cyclone Spoilers and Boss Cougars among them. Street versions of the Boss 429 and Boss 351 Mustangs and prototypes including the LID Mustang, Boss 302 Maverick, Boss 429 Maverick, Composite Mustang(s), Special Bronco and Mach 2C were all assembled in Ford's contracted race shop. And then, out of the blue, its doors closed for good on a cold day in 1970. See a variety of the cars and the Bronco that came out of the Kar Kraft facility. Also part of the mega-show will be the “Shelby & Mustang PINNACLE Display and Competition.” This special gathering will showcase select examples of the country's finest and rarest examples of Mustangs and Shelbys that have already achieved both SAAC and MCA Gold certification. This is an intensive judging program which includes putting these cars on a lift for inspection inside, outside and underneath. There much more to see and do at this show, so to check out all the activities, visit the event web site at http://www.mcacn.com/
