We’ve seen some great one-owner, all-original car stories here on FordPerformance.com in our Ford Fan Spotlight section. Proud owners have told us the tales of buying their cars new and keeping them in showroom condition ever since. But we must admit that we’ve never received a story from the car itself, telling us about life with its owner – until we received the letter below from Chris Glisson’s 1977 Mustang II Cobra II. No, we’re not making this up; just see below:

“Hello Ford Performance! Every Car Has A Story: I’m a 1977 Ford Mustang II Cobra II, with a factory V-8 (302),T-Tops, A/C and a 4-speed. I’ve only had one owner, who has documented all of my 28,000+ miles. Here’s my story:

“My original, only and current owner purchased me new straight off the truck at Vogler Ford in Carbondale, Illinois, from a salesman named Ray on August 31, 1977. My owner even still has the original Temporary Registration Tag from that beautiful day when he brought me home to show the family. He has loved me so much that he has even saved every single gas, maintenance, oil change, etc., receipt since my first day, all in a laminated binder for safe keeping.1977 Mustang underhood with award on top

“I have slept in the same garage at the same house every night since I was new. I have never had any damage or had any of my body panels removed. I have been licensed and insured (same company) every month of every year since new. I still have my original brakes (even brake shoes/pads) and clutch (yes, clutch), but had my tires replaced in March of 1985, which I still have on today. I had a partial re-spray in January of 1994 and my motor and undercarriage detailed in May of 1994, and never touched again.1977 Mustang Red interior with original paperwork

“I have a feeling I’m going to be with this family for many generations to come.”“My motor has never been torn down and my interior has never been touched. In 1999-2000ish, I was awarded the Gold Plate Award by the Mustang Club of America. Shortly after, because of times changing and kids and grandkids, I was put in the garage to hibernate. I was covered up and forgotten about until August of 2013, when my owner said enough – it’s time for me to wake up and see the sunlight again, and here I am today.1977 Mustang Cobra II 3/4 photo from backside

How YOU can Get In The Spotlight: For the past decade, one of the most popular features on FordPerformance.com and in our weekly Fast News e-newsletter continues to be "Ford Fan Spotlight," where readers can send in their own reasons why they're fans of Ford Motor Company and its vehicles. You know who they are: Ford "superfans;" grassroots Ford racers; unique Ford vehicle owners; loyal Ford enthusiasts; notable Ford club people; special Ford families; and/or any avid supporter of Ford, Ford vehicles, Ford motorsports or Ford Performance who deserves a little bit of special recognition.

All you need to do to get you, your car or candidate considered is to send in a brief description (200-500 words or less) and a few photos (in .jpeg format, preferably around 1 mb in size) with the owner’s full name and hometown, please. Just tell us about the vehicle(s) and why you think Ford Performance should feature it (them) in the "Ford Fan Spotlight" for an upcoming installment of Fast News as well as for posting on FordPerformance.com. Then email it to:
ClubHub@Ford.com with your contact info. Should you wish to send a video, you simply need to post it on www.YouTube.com (preferably 1-2 minutes long) and send in the link, along with a brief description, to that same ClubHub@Ford.com email address. Your submission allows us the rights to use your words and images (along with any edits) for editorial purposes; we’ll choose one submission in random order each week to post online. We hope to see YOU and your Ford in our Spotlight soon!
