Adelaide, South Australia, November 17, 2024 – The Ford Mustang GT has claimed the fast car crown in Supercars, with Cam Waters scoring more pole positions than anyone else across the 2024 season.
He grabbed another at the Adelaide 500 as the final round of the Supercars championship also resulted in podium race finishes by Waters, Chaz Mostert and Thomas Randle across Saturday and Sunday’s 250-kilometre races.
Waters was third on Saturday, with the second of twin 85-lap battles on Sunday ending with Mostert and Randle in second and third, respectively.
Mostert finished as the best of the Ford fighters in the 2024 drivers’ championship battle, claiming third place.
Mustang squads finished in second through fifth places in the teams’ title standings, with Tickford Racing ahead of Walkinshaw Andretti United, Grove Racing and Dick Johnson Racing.
The final weekend of the Supercars season produced torrid action from the outset on the punishing Adelaide street course, with Richie Stanaway knocked out of the event with a concussion after a massive crash on Friday. His place at Grove Racing was taken by veteran co-driver Dale Wood in the Saturday race, with newcomer Kai Allen filling the seat on Sunday ahead of joining the team full-time next year.
Chaz Mostert was in contention for victory on Sunday, battling at the head of the pack before being turned around in a battle for the lead.
“I hope it was entertaining for everyone,” said Mostert.
The 2025 Supercars Championship will begin with the Sydney 500 from February 21-23, at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Team Owner/Principal Quotes
Rod Nash, Tickford Racing
- “We’ve finished the year strongly. It’s great to be flying the blue flag and being the top Ford team for the year.
- “To have a front-row lock-out in qualifying on Saturday showed the strengths of the team and what our drivers, Cam Waters and Thomas Randle, are about.
- “A race win didn’t come but they both knocked up the points quite strongly and Thomas did a great job in the Sunday race. After seven pole positions, fourth in the drivers’ championship was probably not the right reward for Cam.
- “We’ve spent the last couple of meetings talking about 2025 and the stuff we need to hit the ground running. We’ve got a good base and it’s all forward from here.
- “Winning a championship in our game is easier said than done, but with what we achieved this year I think we’re heading in the right direction.”
Carl Faux, Walkinshaw Andretti United
- “On Saturday we had a few issues and Sunday was definitely a race that got away for Chaz. It was an entertaining race for the fans, but not for us.
- “Over the year things were not bad, but not good enough. We got poles, we got wins, and we got front-row lockouts. But it was not good enough for the championship.
- “The peaks and troughs have been a bit too extreme. The way Chaz drove on Sunday showed what he can do, and young Ryan Wood has showed flashes of speed, but keeps getting taken out.
- “It’s good to have some data and reset for next year with new championship and a new series format. We have definitely made a step forward from where we were in 2023 and we've definitely on the right path for next year."
Stephen Grove, Grove Racing
- “It was a tough weekend, but the big positive is that we have finished fourth in the teams’ championship. That’s a move up for us.
- “Kai Allen is joining us next year and got an early run in the car after Richie’s crash. He learned a lot in one of the toughest races of the year.
- “We had some bad luck with Matt Payne, who should have been third in qualifying on Saturday, and when you start back in the field you get beaten up.
- “We have shown the cars are fast and that’s the good thing. Now we’re working on next year.”
Dr Ryan Story, Dick Johnson Racing
- “Season 2025 starts now. This has not been the year we wanted or expected.
- “Two cars in the Top 10 Shootout and fourth place with Will Davison on Sunday was a small consolation, but it was still too little and too late.
- “There will be big changes at DJR next year and the clear objective is to get back to where we belong – at the front of the field.”
Tim Blanchard, Blanchard Racing Team
- “It’s been quite a tough year but for the last couple of rounds we have definitely taken a step forward, especially on James Courtney's car.
- “We got lucky with qualifying on Saturday but to have two cars in the Top 10 shootout was a memorable day, and a reflection of the changes we’ve been making behind the scenes.
- “The things we’ve been working on are definitely paying off and we’re looking forward to next year. We’ve got a stable group and we’re looking to keep the team moving forward.
- “James had a solid year; he has been maximising what we’ve given him and encouraging the whole team. Aaron Love has had a brutal first year, like many other people in the past, but he has put a lot in the memory bank for next year.”
