LAKE ORION, Mich. -- Being a member of a Ford-based car club always provides opportunities to participate at events that you otherwise wouldn’t even know about. It seems some specialty clubs, like those associated with Cobras and Shelbys, have been able to find cool venues where their members and other like-minded enthusiasts can often become the center of attention. One such event is known as the annual “Snakes in the Grass” gathering held at Canterbury Village in Southeast Michigan on the first weekend of September. As you might have guessed, the “Snakes” part of that name refers to a variety of Cobras that can be seen there, assembled by The Great Lakes Cobra Club (GLCC). 

Last fall, the GLCC teamed up with the Motor City Region of the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC-MCR) to head out to the yearly cruise-in at this Cars & Coffee style event to “celebrate all things Carroll Shelby.” Held at the 21-acre historical landmark known as Canterbury Village that had once been part of a farm owned by prominent Detroiter William Edmund Scripps, the Cobras were joined by other snake-named vehicles such as Vipers, Mustang Cobras and other Shelbys, with dozens and dozens of them proudly displayed on the grounds. Canterbury Village is host to 14 specialty shops, a large “Always Christmas” store, a pavilion (including a reproduction 19th century carousel), plus a pub and the King’s Court Castle Restaurant, so there more to do here than just kick tires and talk cars.

The vehicles arrived early in the morning and our friend Rich Tweedle, the communications director for SAAC-MCR, stopped in with his camera to check out the Shelbys and Fords that took part in the event. He shared his photos from that day with Ford Performance below:
