PORT HURON, Mich. – For every one of its five years, we’ve enjoyed attending and supporting the MainStreet Memories car show in Port Huron, Michigan, situated at the eastern end of Interstate 94, just across the river from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. After taking a year off last summer because of the pandemic, organizers brought back MainStreet Memories on the last Saturday of July 2021 to this border-crossing town about an hour north of Detroit, but with one big change – it wasn’t on MainStreet. 

This time instead of closing off Huron Avenue in part of Port Huron’s old downtown to host the annual car show, it was moved a couple blocks to Acheson Ventures’ expansive waterfront property known as Vantage Point. In doing so, the show gained a new name, “MainStreet Memories Wheels On The Waterfront,” plus room for many more cars. Better still, it saved the $4,000-plus cost of closing the road, and made staging, parking show cars, spectator parking and getting in and out of the show easier and faster. 

The move helped grow the event to more than 800 show cars this year, up from the 400 cars in 2018 and 600 in ’19. While the Port Huron show welcomes all makes and models other than only those from the Blue Oval, Ford Performance again supported the event, both by supplying Ford Performance Parts catalogs for the goody bags, and by arriving in its Club Connect Transit van and setting up its well-known Ford Performance Meet & Greet display tent for a free Mustang Poster giveaway on the show field all day. 

We met hundreds of Ford owners and fans and gave away hundreds of Shelby GT500 posters before taking a break to walk the show and take photos of some of our favorite Fords we found in attendance. The event also featured door-prize drawings, a 50/50 raffle, a kid’s zone with a really cool, fun-filled PowerWheels drag-racing competition for the little ones, plus tons of vendors and of course an awards ceremony. The show also gives back to the community via their charity of choice, which is The Council on Aging, Inc., to which it has donated over $65,000 over the years.
