From Dream Car To Reality: Bob Turner’s Superformance 427 Shelby Daytona Coupe

After a career that included teaching high school drafting class and running a middle Tennessee construction company, Bob Turner turned his attention to his real passion -- the Shelby Daytona Coupe. As a young man, Bob followed the worldwide racing exploits of the Shelby American team with this unique race car. Only six original Daytona coupes were built by Shelby American in its Southern California-based race shop. In an effort to provide enthusiasts with their own version of the ultra-rare car, a small number of aftermarket companies developed DIY kits. Leading the pack among these kits is the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe (also called the Brock Coupe after designer Peter Brock, who styled the original racers with Shelby).Bob turners Daytona Coupe

Bob started his dream build with a Superformance Daytona Coupe kit. Car construction was done in his own garage over several months. Once the build was completed, the car was painted a striking silver metallic color and also features a classic white roundel with #74 lettering. Powering this aerodynamic beast is a “streetable” yet “built-to-the-hilt” 427 cubic inch engine that features a host of go-fast parts. The interior is equipped with a roll cage and Kirkey aluminum race seats keep Bob planted in cockpit. The Daytona Coupe rides on custom 18-inch white center-lock wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires.Daytona Coupe inside of garage on the lift

Bob built the Cobra Daytona Coupe to be a driver and participates in several open track days around the southeast. He is a regular attendee at Mike Mefford Motors’ monthly Cars-N-Coffee in Columbia, Tennessee. He has also driven the unique Daytona Coupe on the infamous Tail of the Dagon route in North Carolina.Inside of rear trunk with awards and memorabilia
