For Mark Harper, 6-Year Resto Of His 72 Gran Torino Sport Was A Labor Of Love

One of the many advantages of membership in your local Mustang or Ford club is being able to attend club meetings where you get the chance to mingle with other members and make new friends. The big club in Ford’s own backyard of Dearborn is the Mustang Owners Club of SouthEastern Michigan (MOCSEM), and Ford Performance attends as many monthly club meetings as we can to stay connected with our area’s active Mustangers and Ford fans. It was at one such meeting where we got the chance to talk to fellow MOCSEM member Mark Harper, who told us the story of getting his beloved project car into show condition. It’s not a Mustang, mind you, but a spectacular 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport. When we asked Mark to send us some photos of his road-ready Torino, we couldn’t take our eyes off of it -- so we decided to share them with you below in this week’s Ford Fan Spotlight:Rear three quarter photo

“Hi, Ford Performance! It’s Mark Harper. It was great to talk with you at the MOCSEM meeting. I hope you enjoy the pictures of my 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport that you requested I send to you. As I mentioned to you, I fully rebuilt this car -- every nut, bolt and wire. It took me about six years to get it where it is today.Engine photo of torino“We drive it about 3,000 miles a year, as I built it to enjoy. It’s got a 351C with a C4 automatic, power steering and factory Ford A/C upgraded with R12. Plus it features Magnum 500’s, the correct laser stripe, a black vinyl top, rear defrost, houndstooth cloth seats, factory gauge package, rim-blow steering wheel, and even an AM/FM 8-track converted to Bluetooth.Interior of Torino with passenger side

Here’s How YOU Can Get In The Spotlight: For more than 15 years now, one of the most popular features on FordPerformance.com and in our weekly Fast News e-newsletter continues to be "Ford Fan Spotlight," where readers can send in their own reasons why they're fans of Ford Motor Company and its vehicles. You know who they are: Ford "superfans;" grassroots Ford racers; unique Ford vehicle owners; loyal Ford enthusiasts; notable Ford club people; special Ford families; and/or any avid supporter of Ford, Ford vehicles, Ford motorsports or Ford Performance who deserves a little bit of special recognition.
All you need to do to get you, your car or candidate considered is to send in a brief description (200-500 words or less) and a few photos (in .jpeg format, preferably around 1 mb in size) with the owner’s full name and hometown, please. Just tell us about the vehicle(s) and why you think Ford Performance should feature it (them) in the "Ford Fan Spotlight" for an upcoming installment of Fast News as well as for posting on FordPerformance.com. Then email it to:
ClubHub@Ford.com with your contact info. Your submission allows us the rights to use your words and images (along with any edits) for editorial purposes; we’ll choose one submission in random order to post online. We hope to see YOU and your Ford in our Spotlight soon!
