DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Being an automotive enthusiast in the year of 2020 wasn’t easy for most of us. With many of our favorite shows canceled across the country, we were pretty much left going out for solo cruises and applying our favorite paint protectant in the driveway. Fortunately for some areas of the country, event coordinators strategically planned to have COVID-19 aware environments so that show goers could maintain their safety and still enjoy a good ole’ car show. Billing itself as the Largest Combined Collector Car Show, Swap Meet and Car Corral in the USA, the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach, Florida, was able to keep its traditional Fall show occurring late November, just after Thanksgiving, for the 47th year in a row.
What began as a small show with only 45 cars back in the mid-1970’s has now developed into a twice-per-year, all-out car enthusiast “fun-in-the-sun” family weekend. With four days and more than 6,000 vehicles of all makes and models usually in attendance, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy at this big annual event. The show also features a swap meet, Artisan Alley, Live Entertainment and lots and lots of food. This year, the show also featured a giveaway car which happened to be a 1966 Mustang Coupe in Signal Flare Red. Although some activities were dropped due to health safety measures and attendance was down with fewer vendors, the Turkey Run is still a show that’s too big and too good to miss. If you missed out last fall, the next Turkey Run is the spring version that is scheduled for March 26 to March 28, also at Daytona International Speedway.
Ford Performance correspondent and Shelby American Automotive Club (SAAC)-Motor City Region Founder Jeff Burgy attended the Fall Turkey Run and agreed to share some highlights from the show through his camera lens. Although he sent dozens and dozens of Fords worthy to be featured here, we’ve chosen 20 of our favorites (below):
