ADELAIDE, Australia - Practice 1 was held in mild, overcast conditions. Practice sessions in 2020 will be a little different to previous years, with green tyres available for teams to run all weekend. This will give a better indication of real pace across the feel.

Both cars were in the top-five early, however these were only installation laps. McLaughlin put in a 1m21.0033 lap on his fifth lap, with Coulthard a 1m21.2510 on his fourth.

Coulthard then improved to a 1m20.9994s to take p6 on his 12th circuit. McLaughlin pushed Coulthard back a position with a 1m20.9710 lap with three minutes remaining. A red flag was flown with two minutes remaining, after Lee Holdsworth and Garry Jacobson came together at Turn 3. The session was not restarted. McLaughlin finished sixth and Coulthard seventh. Practice 2 is tomorrow at 2:05pm.

COULTHARD QUOTE:
"We stuck to our plan today, we had a fair bit of stuff to work through and we didn't deviate too much from that. There were a few things Mark and I wanted to learn today, and we ended up doing a time when the tyres weren't at their best so I feel like we made some progress with the car. New day tomorrow."

MCLAUGHLIN QUOTE:
"Great to get back on the track, had a bit of nervous anticipation about it, but it ended up being a really productive session, where we learned a lot. These sessions early in the season are going to be all about learning. I definitely learned a lot as a driver. We've got a direction, whether it's the right one we will see but tomorrow is important as we need to be in the Top 10 for the qualifying sessions on Saturday."
