Third Time’s A Charm: Super Cobra Jet 1800 Raises The Bar on EV-Powered Racecar Quarter Mile Record

Electric Mustang on the drag strip for record pass

Bowling Green, KY – At Ford Performance, success is not determined by setting an objective, achieving it, and calling it a day's work. For us, our goal is to always be evolving and looking towards raising the bar even further.

This weekend at the NMRA world finals, the all-electric Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 demonstrator claimed a new record time for fastest EV-powered quarter-mile pass with a full-bodied drag car of 7.623 at 182.16mph. This surpasses the previous record created at the NHRA Pomona Winter Nationals back in March of 2024.

“I’m very proud of the accomplishments our team was able to achieve with SCJ1800” said Brian Novak, Ford Performance Supervisor, Drag Racing and Off-Road Racing. “Everyone gives their all coming up with new optimizations and strategies to raise the bar and it's impressive when you consider how much of this car has been ground up development by our team.”

Super Cobra Jet 1800 was driven by Pat McCue, owner of MLe Racecars. McCue also was the pilot for the previous record achievement in Pomona.

Driving this car at over 180 mph is definitely wild” said McCue. “Working everyday with our team at MLe Racecars and the amazing engineering talent at Ford Performance in the development and the progression of the Cobra Jet 1400 to the Super Cobra Jet 1800 has been a wild ride of its own!"
