Force Sisters Make History in Sonoma for a Second Time

For the second time in little more than two months – and the second time in NHRA history, sisters will start from the No. 1 qualifying positions Sunday when 28-year-old Brittany Force and her 26-year-old sister, Courtney, take their Ford-powered race cars to the starting line for the 27th annual Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

Brittany starts from the front in Top Fuel at the wheel of her Castrol EDGE dragster.  Courtney starts No. 1 in Funny Car at the controls of the Traxxas Ford Mustang.  It’s the third No. 1 start of the season for each of the youngest daughters of motorsports icon John Force.

Both native Californians and graduates of Cal State-Fullerton, Brittany and Courtney first made history on May 24 when they were quickest in their respective classes at the Kansas Nationals at Topeka.  Now, they are focused on becoming the first sisters to win on the same day in two different pro categories.

Meanwhile, John Force and Robert Hight also will start their Fords Sunday with the lane choice option, Force as the No. 3 qualifier in the Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE Ford Mustang and Hight as the No. 6 qualifier in the Auto Club Ford.

It was a different story for Bob Tasca III and Tim Wilkerson who will start Sunday in the least preferred lane.  Tasca qualified his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang ninth at 4.125 and Wilkerson his Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford 13th at only 4.214 seconds.
