Academy Motorsport will field twin Ford Mustangs in this year’s GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club, and has signed reigning British GT4 champion Erik Evans and Marco Signoretti to handle its #61 car.

The British team had already confirmed it would be bringing the new-generation S650 Mustang GT4 to Europe with Matt Nicoll-Jones and Will Moore sharing the first #62 car. Now American driver Evans and Canadian ace Signoretti will join forces aboard the second machine, and are set to be a team to watch in the Silver Cup category.

Evans enjoyed a stellar first season of GT racing last year, winning the British GT4 title at his first attempt in the previous-generation Academy Mustang. After switching from a successful single-seater career, he and team-mate Matt Cowley won two races on their way to lifting the class title. That success has now led Evans to step up to European competition at the wheel of the new car.

Multimatic Motorsports driver Signoretti is also not a new face to the Academy team, having competed in British GT with the squad in both 2019 and 2022. Sports Car Championship Canada champion in 2021, he went on to win a become a British GT race winner and will now make the move into European racing aiming for more success.

Evans said: “I’m really stoked to be back with Academy Motorsport, Multimatic Motorsportsand Ford  Performance this year. It’s going to be massively exciting getting to unleash the new-generation Mustang in Europe this year. Last season was amazing, winning British GT, and that naturally made me hungry to make the step up to Europe and face a new challenge this year.”

Signoretti said: “I am honoured to team up with Academy Motorsport for the 2024 season and represent Ford Performance / Multimatic Motorsports on an international stage. It will be the first year of the new Ford Mustang S650 GT4 and we are excited to unleash the potential of this car. As we know; in the sport of racing, anything can happen! Academy has a history of success with Ford Mustangs and I have full confidence in our team to overcome any challenges that arise during our campaign. We’ve got a great driver line-up for both cars and I am keen to hit the track running this spring!”

Academy Motorsport team principal Matt Nicoll-Jones added: “Following on from four fantastic years partnering both Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports, we as a team cannot wait to get back on track in the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club for 2024. The new Mustang GT4 will look right a home amongst the 50+ strong grid, and we fully intend to go for wins and podiums from the very start of the year, and fight for the championship with both our cars. We’ve come close to winning it in past years, so hopefully this can be our season.”
