Andrew Aquilante guided his No. 32 Calvert Dynamics/Phoenix Performance Phoenix American Motorsports Mustang BOSS 302 to a third-place finish in the season finale of the GTS class in the Pirelli World Challenge series at Laguna Seca last weekend, but it was still a great day for the Blue Oval.
Ford easily captured the GTS' Manufacturers' Championship over Aston Martin and Porsche, while Aquilante secured the runner-up position in the drivers' standings.
“To come into the Pirelli World Challenge in our first season and finish second in the point standings, I can’t be too disappointed,” said Aquilante. “Our crew did a phenomenal job this year and with just one win. To help win the manufacturers championship for Ford is a great feeling, too. The camaraderie between the Ford teams is great in the series. We tried hard this year but didn’t quite have the car. We were good early in the season but never the fastest."
Helping Ford clinch the Manufacturers' title were Dean Martin (fourth in the drivers' standings) and Kurt Rezzetano (fifth). Phoenix Performance won the team title in GTS, while Preston Calvert of Phoenix Performance was the series Rookie of the Year.
