Torn Triumphant with Fiesta Rally4 in Rome

ROME - Estonians Ken Torn and Kauri Pannas claimed an incredible victory in both ERC3 and ERC3 Junior with a dominant performance in the M-Sport Poland built Fiesta Rally4.
The Estonians claimed maximum points in the ERC3J Championship, earning 30 points for the victory and 10 points for winning both legs of the all asphalt affair on Rally di Roma Capitale.
Torn made a short notice decision to head to Rome as preparation for his FIA Junior WRC Championship programme after such a long break between rallies.
Despite the late notice, Torn led for most of the rally, sending his Ecoboost-powered Fiesta Rally4 into a dominating run on the Saturday to claim five ERC3J points for winning the opening leg.
With limited testing before the rally and his first sealed surface event since August 2019, Torn became quickly accustomed to the new Fiesta Rally4. The all-Estonian crew took the opening stage victory on Saturday morning, underlining the Fiesta Rally4’s out of the box speed and drivability, before engaging in a nail-biting battle for the lead. Their quick turn of pace would continue throughout the rally, collecting four stage wins on the way to their first victory of 2020. The pace at the front was at such a high level that Torn won the ERC3 rally by almost four minutes after a faultless performance.

For M-Sport Poland, Rally di Roma Capitale marked a significant milestone as the first international rally for the team since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the entire rallying world to a grinding halt. The team recognises and applauds the incredible efforts made by ERC and Rally di Roma Capitale organisers to stageo a well-executed rally in such trying circumstances.
Swedish youngster Dennis Radstrom made his ERC debut in the new Fiesta Rally4 following a successful preparation event on Rally Bohemia. The Swede sustained a puncture mid-corner on the first stages, sending him into a ditch at speed resulting in steering damage. Radstrom regrouped for the following leg on Sunday, putting full focus on collect a podium position on leg two to put towards his ERC3J Championship effort, collecting third and three valuable championship points.
Maciej Woda, M-Sport Poland Team Director:
“I have been hoping and dreaming for this moment ever since we committed to the Rally4. I cannot overstate how proud I am of Ken, Kauri and the entire M-Sport Poland team for this remarkable performance for the Fiesta Rally4’s first major international rally. This rally really has been a rollercoaster of emotions for us as a team. I think I speak for everybody in the service park when I say we were all so excited to be back competing for victories in the sport we all love. Considering Ken decided to do this rally for valuable experience for the Junior WRC championship it really is an incredible achievement. Massive congratulations on a well deserved victory Ken!
“While the opening stage went exactly to plan for Ken, the same cannot be said for Dennis who I have a lot of sympathy for. Looking into the data, Dennis looked to have a very promising rally until his puncture, he was on Ken’s pace for sure but in this sport we don’t deal in ifs and buts. Dennis proved his pace on Sunday, collecting third on the second leg of the rally and three points towards his championship campaign. I cannot wait to see Dennis on the fast roads of Liepāja.”
Ken Torn:
“The plan for the final loop was simple, go flat out, we were pushing to the max on all stages and it was really fun to be able to drive like that. It feels amazing, sorry for Pedro but we put in some amazing runs today and at that speed it is quite easy to make some mistakes but it paid off. The Fiesta Rally4 is more powerful, with some really nice changes that help you get more out of the car which is really good. We are winners and we are happy.”
