French driver Adrien Fourmaux marked his highly anticipated return to the pinnacle of the World Rally Championship for the 2024 season, behind the wheel of the Ford Puma Rally1. Originally pursuing a four-year medical degree, Fourmaux traded his surgical gloves for the thrill of rally driving. M-Sport's support led him into their prestigious driver development programme, kickstarting his rally career. His journey began with a victory in the FFSA Youth Rally in 2016, followed by a notable third place in the French Junior Championship in 2017. Building on his experience, he clinched victory in 2018.
Following his success in the French Junior Championship, Fourmaux made his debut in the World Rally Championship in 2019 at Rallye Monte-Carlo for WRC2, handling the Ford Fiesta R5. Red Bull's backing in 2021 elevated him to the ranks of the select few French drivers sponsored by the energy drink giant in the rally world. While driving the Ford Puma Rally1 in the 2022 season, unforeseen challenges prompted a shift back to Rally2 for 2023. However, Fourmaux's fortunes turned as he secured the British Rally Championship title that year, earning him the opportunity to compete back in a Rally1 car for the season finale in Japan.
His impressive performance in Japan showcased consistency, leading M-Sport to promote him to the Rally1 car for the entire 2024 season. As Fourmaux continues to adapt to the Rally1 car, the season unfolds with a promising prospect. The driver anticipates thriving on his favoured gravel tracks, notably in Kenya and Greece, setting the stage for potential success in the ongoing season.
