IRWINDALE, Calif. — Almost 10 years to the day after winning his first Formula Drift championship in 2010, Vaughn Gittin Jr. and the entire RTR Motorsports team put together a tremendous effort to win the 2020 title and have teammate Chelsea DeNofa come in second. This year has been the culmination of building and positioning RTR to achieve the greatest goal in motorsports and develop a team that would not only dominate but provide the infrastructure for RTR drivers to succeed and flourish.

In a season dominated by uncertainty, adaptation and triumph, Gittin Jr., in his 2020 Monster Energy Ford Mustang RTR, lifted the championship trophy at Irwindale Speedway or the ‘House of Drift’ as it’s affectionately named, the same place Gittin Jr. won the title in 2010. In those 10 years, RTR has gained notoriety by constructing a world-class racing program, experiential marketing division, the RTR Vehicles production Ford products that are available to consumers, and some of the world’s most recognizable custom car builds such as the Mach-E 1400 and Hoonicorn RTR. With 2020’s continuously changing atmosphere, the vision and goal of RTR stayed the course and adapted with times, proving what was set out for it.

“I could not have dreamed a better Formula Drift season for our team and to have earned these results throughout the year have had me elated with gratefulness,” said Vaughn Gittin Jr. “It is incredible to have such amazing people around me and to be able to achieve the things we do together. Seeing Chelsea [DeNofa] hold up that second-place championship trophy right next to me with our team flanking us is something I will never forget!”

In addition to campaigning his Mustang RTR to the top spot in the championship, RTR Team owner and president, Gittin Jr., also watched on as his teammate Chelsea DeNofa took second place at the final event of the season, giving RTR Motorsports a 1-2 in the championship for the 2020 season. RTR has been on the podium for 7 out of 8 rounds in 2020 and is the only team in Formula Drift history to grab the first and second championship spots in the same year.

The 17-year Formula Drift veteran showed determination and his “Professional Fun-Haver” approach by pulling together a consistent, forceful and fun run for the championship by keeping spirits high with a glass half-full mentality. Starting at FD Seattle with back-to-back wins in round 3 and 4 and double podium during round 5 and 6, Gittin Jr.’s consistency and poise helped push his Partners Ford Performance win the manufacturer cup, and Nitto Tire win the tire cup for the 2020 season.

“What a year,” Vaughn Gittin Jr. exclaimed. “My [RTR] team and I pushed our Mustang RTRs to the limit and I’m so grateful for the amazing group of people that make up our team, our incredible Partners, and the fans for supporting this passion together and making the best out of a challenging year.”
