LAKE ORION, Mich. – Car-lovers from all across the United States spend their summers seeking out every cruise-in, meet-up, club gathering and car show they can find -- making up just about any excuse they can for the need to take their prized vehicles out for a drive and show them off. While the nation’s fast-food restaurants are popular venues for cruise-ins, in the Motor City area the Culver’s franchise in Lake Orion, Michigan, just north of Detroit, hosts a super-popular weekly car cruise-in that begins on the first Tuesday in May.
How popular? When the weather is nice, this big cruise-in will attract an average of 400-500 cars weekly! It runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Tuesday night at the restaurant all summer long. In addition to seeing a wide variety of classics, hot rods and muscle cars, this particular event also features multiple weekly prizes, a trivia contest, a 50/50 raffle, and even a live DJ on-site.
With so many Fords among the cruisers who frequent this event, it’s easy to see why our own roving Ford retiree enthusiast/photographer, Bill Cook, can be found there more than a few times each year. Bill attended one of the Culver’s Cruise-Ins last summer and kindly offers us a taste of some of the Fords that he spotted there in his photo gallery below:
