DEARBORN, Mich. August 2, 2024 – After a successful debut of the 2024 Mustang Challenge season, Ford Performance is excited to announce the 2025 season schedule for the IMSA-sanctioned series. The championship schedule grows to six rounds and 12 races, plus the addition of the non-points Invitational round at Circuit de la Sarthe in support of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. 

2025 Mustang Challenge Schedule

  • March 12-15: Sebring International Raceway

  • May 9-11: WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

  • *June 12-14: Le Mans Invitational (non-championship points round)

  • August 1-3: Road America

  • August 22-24: VIRginia International Raceway

  • September 5-7: Circuit of The Americas

  • Final Round to be announced

The 2025 Mustang Challenge season features three new U.S. circuits, offering some of the most exciting coast-to-coast racing at world renowned circuits.

The diverse nature of these courses offer a unique experience for drivers to further develop and harness their racing skills in Mustang Dark Horse R.

Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational

The 2025 Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational is a new, optional round of the 2025 IMSA Mustang Challenge schedule. This exclusive event will be held at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe during the prestigious week of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, also serving as the midpoint of the FIA World Endurance Championship season. All Mustang Challenge competitors and qualified owners of the Mustang Dark Horse R will be invited to join this exceptional racing experience.

The Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational promises to be a highlight of the season, offering a unique opportunity for qualified individuals and teams to compete on one of the world's most iconic tracks. In addition, a limited number of additional Mustang Dark Horse R race cars will be allocated and sold to interested and qualified racers not currently competing in Mustang Challenge who wish to join the field, to ensure a competitive and thrilling race.

Prize Structure

Ford Performance maintains its commitment to offering a clear path for competitors to chase their sports car racing aspirations. The series offers an innovative championship prize structure, encouraging progression in the Mustang sports car racing stable.

Dark Horse season champions will have two paths to choose from for prizes:

  • Cash prize of $40,000

OR

  • $100,000 Scholarship towards a Mustang GT3 or Mustang GT4 seat the following year.

Both paths will be accompanied by a test day in a Mustang GT4.

Each race will feature a podium celebration for both classes, as well as prize money awarded to overall first through third place finishers.

Series tire partner Michelin supports the Mustang racing ladder with an overall championship prize of a set of tires per weekend for any driver racing a Mustang Dark Horse R, Mustang GT4 or Mustang GT3 in a Michelin series the following year.

Those finishing second and third overall in the championship will also receive cash payouts of $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Dark Horse Legends champions will receive a cash prize of $20,000 or a test day in a Mustang GT4.
