DEARBORN – Ford EcoBoost and Ford Chip Ganassi Racing have earned DEKRA Green Racing awards (manufacturer and team) for performance this year in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The DEKRA Green Racing award is given to the cleanest, fastest and most efficient cars in the GTLM class. Data is collected for each car throughout every race, with each lap scored using timing and scoring (“fast,” or average on-track speed compared to leader in kph), amount of fuel used (“clean”) and efficiency, or how well each car used the energy it consumed.

The No. 67 Ford GT and Ford EcoBoost topped the DEKRA scoring at Long Beach, Watkins Glen, Mosport, Lime Rock and Road America.

GTLM class teams competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship must utilize alternative fuels such as ethanol or biodiesel. Cars are also scored based on factors established by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) in conjunction with IMSA.

“Winning the DEKRA Green Racing award shows we’re doing exactly what we wanted to do with Ford EcoBoost in sports car racing,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “Ford GT is designed to showcase the very best Ford has in all areas, including making power and using it efficiently, and Ford Chip Ganassi has been masterful at harnessing that power and converting it into the best performance possible.”

“We’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with Ford GT,” said Mike O’Gara, team principal, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing. “Our crew and drivers have put in the time to get to know every inch of the car and how it performs and the efficiencies we’ve found are the result of combining that knowledge with what we know about the tracks we compete at.”
