SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. – Wouldn’t it be cool if young enthusiasts could enjoy an entire weekend of on-track competitions and drift demonstrations mixed in with music, food and camping out? That’s exactly the theme behind #GRIDLIFE18 Midwest, which took place over the weekend of June 8-9-10, 2018, at Gingerman Raceway in Grand Haven, Michigan. The sometimes cloudy skies and spotty showers didn’t seem to diminish the numbers of fast and serious track rats who registered for driving events or the gate count of attendees. #GRIDLIFE Midwest organizers secured a full array of events to either participate in, dance to or simply entertain, after each full day of track activities.
Those participating in the track events ranged from average enthusiasts with stock performance cars right on through pro drivers with professional shop-built cars – all applying their skills during either the Time Attack competition or road-course Bracket Racing. Time Attack segments were broken up with impressive displays of professional drifting done by none other than Vaughn Gittin, Jr., in the Monster Energy RTR Spec 5-FD Mustang, and Justin Pawlak in the Falken Tire S197 Mustang. The drifting demos brought roars from the excited crowds of onlookers, who packed the trackside viewing areas between the start of Pit Lane all the way through Turn 9 of the 11-turn road course. As the sun set, the crowds surrounded the #AFTERGRID outdoor stage to listen and dance to electronic music late into the night before it all started over again in the morning with many of the attendees camping on the grounds overnight.
