CLEVELAND, Ga. – Say the name “Jacky Jones” and any Ford fan worth their salt will not only know that Jacky owns a string a dealerships covering several different brands across the south, but also that while his series of Ford stores have helped put him on the mega-dealer map, his fondness for Blue Oval muscle has made him a household name in the Ford collector car world.
No, Jacky Jones doesn’t manage a museum that houses his overwhelming Ford car and memorabilia collection; rather, from time to time he’ll allow friends and sometimes even friends-of-a-friend to get a look inside his nondescript storage building that could pass for any typical small-town warehouse. And that’s how we got the chance to look inside this private collection.
A few years back we were attending an MCA Nationals show in Grovetown, Georgia, and got to visit longtime friend and Ford retiree “Doug” DeLorme, whose wood model-making skills had him working on a variety of projects in the Ford Design Center all the way back to Ford’s Total Performance era. Doug told us that as an extra treat while we were in town for the show, he could arrange a stop for us to get inside Jacky Jones’ shop. There, a massive array of rare Fords were stored, including big-block Galaxies and Fairlanes, Cobra Jet Mustangs and even hot-rodded 1940 Fords built for moonshine hauling duties – you name it. Although mostly doorhandle-to-doorhandle and all under harsh fluorescent lights in the shadow of wall-to-wall glass cases filled with Ford memorabilia, we snapped shots anyway just to share with you a glimpse of some of the amazing finds we came across during our brief time inside the building.
We had so much fun talking performance Fords with Jacky in his massive storage building that he even invited us up to his house afterward to also get a look inside his car barn on the back of his property. We found even more super-cool cars and trucks on that site, although it was a bit took dark in there for much photography. We much appreciated Doug and Jacky’s hospitality, and simply wanted to share with you some of the Ford gems we saw in Jacky’s personal collection that is not shared with the general public. We hope you enjoy some of the shots we took below during our sneak peek, with the hope that we’ll be able to talk Jacky into a proper photo shoot of his entire Ford collection sometime soon.
