WE FIND THE HOT FORDS AT 7th HICKSVILLE FIRE DEPT. CAR SHOW

Hicksville (15)

HICKSVILLE, NY. – The New York Auto Fest isn’t an automotive event, it’s actually a series of car shows and multi-marque events that spans the show season all across Long Island, New York. So when we were invited to set up a Ford Performance Meet & Greet at a recent NYAF show, we headed off to Long Island armed with our display tent and hundreds of Shelby GT350 full-color posters to hand out. Our goal was to be a top attraction at the “7th Annual Hicksville (NY) Fire Department Volunteer Hose Co. 4 Car Show & BBQ Cookoff.”

The good news is, our tent was packed all day long, even though the show was open to cars and trucks of all makes and models. The bad news is, we were asked to help judge the barbeque cookoff, which meant we spent our lunch hour taste-testing a dozen different barbequed chicken entries, plus a dozen different barbequed meat entries, which included brisket and ribs. While that may sound like good news, you’d be surprised how difficult it was to eat and then rate 24 separate samples of delicious barbeque . . . plus just how long that “very full and thirsty” feeling stays with you.

A myriad of cool and collectible vehicles filled the Hicksville Sears parking lot for this show on a warm and partly sunny Sunday, September 18, 2017. Not only was Hicksville Fire Dept. Hose Co 4 Car Show and BBQ Cookoff Competition open to all cars, trucks, and motorcycles, but drivers of the first 100 vehicles to register for the show were awarded a FREE lunch. In addition to the great food by the 12 barbecue teams on-site, there was music, a craft fair, vendors, a 50/50 drawing and some impressive awards in 40 judged classes as well as a “Best in Show” and many other special awards (including one from Ford Performance) – all handed out by The New York Auto Fest’s own Veronica Mae Wyles. As expected, event organizer Leo Cerutti did a marvelous job with the show. We asked Mustang & Shelby Club of Long Island president John Olesuk, club secretary Dennis Healy and MCA National Director John Dettori to handle poster giveaway duty at the Ford Performance tent while we snuck off to snap photos of some of the fine Mustangs and Fords on display there.
