SHAKOPEE, MN – Some Mustang clubs come up with some pretty cool ideas when they arrange for new venues to hold a car show. One that caught or eye was the “Mustangs and Ponies” Show that was hosted by the Southwest Metro Mustang Club (SWMMC) – the MCA regional club in the Minneapolis area of Minnesota. When club president Pete Schmidt had contacted us to say he was planning an all-Mustang show at Canterbury Park Horse Racing track in nearby Shakopee, MN, we were pretty sure we’d never heard of that idea before. So when he asked if Ford Performance would consider attending the show last July 25th to set up a Meet-and-Greet at trackside and take on guest-speaker duties at the banquet after, we couldn’t pass it up. While show participants were asked to not rev-up their Mustangs so that any loud exhausts wouldn’t startle the horses going to and from the starting gate, we have to admit that Ford Mustangs and real, live ponies really do look good together! After we chatted with attendees and gave away all of our Mustang posters, we strolled the show field to snap some pictures of the well more than 100 Mustangs on display, and then watched the thoroughbreds thunder around the track for a few races before heading up to the Clubhouse for dinner. Enjoy the photos, and take heart: The SWMMC plans to make this a yearly outing, with the 2nd Annual “Mustangs and Ponies” show at Canterbury Park set for July 24, 2016. While we can’t vouch for betting on the horses, we can say it’s a good bet you’ll see some great cars and a have a good time at this show!
