The International Thunderbird Club (ITC) is for 1955-2005 Thunderbird owners and enthusiasts. ITC members range in age from their 20’s to their late 90’s and includes members from around the globe. ITC’s presence can be found at the Charlotte Motor Speedway AutoFest, AACA’s Fall Hershey, Carlisle All Ford Nationals, the annual ITC Convention and at many local ITC chapter events. The ITC Thunderbird Script is a bi-monthly magazine featuring stories, pictures of members T-birds, technical tips, free advertisement for members selling their beloved T-birds and vendors ads offering club members discounts and specials. ITC social media includes Facebook that currently holds the title of the largest Thunderbird site in the world for any T-bird enthusiasts – even those not affiliated with ITC. Another advantage to joining this great club is the network of T-bird technical advisors for all years and models that are accessible to members.
The Retro Bird concept car was on display in New York during 1999 and a featured event at the ITC convention that year. In 2001, the Retro Bird unveiling was held at Dearborn, MI. Members were invited to see the Retro introduction, tour the Wixom Plant and witness the production of the new T-bird. Many ITC members attended, with their Thunderbirds, the Ford 100th Anniversary Celebration on the grounds of Ford World Headquarters in 2003. The celebrations continued in Dearborn at the Ford World Headquarters for the Ford Thunderbird’s 50th Anniversary in 2005, and the 55th Anniversary in 2010. Again, ITC members enjoyed the events and meeting other T-bird owners from around the country. Club members had the pleasure of driving their Thunderbirds on Ford’s Dearborn Proving Grounds Track and cruising through historical Greenfield Village.
Many ITC members own numerous Thunderbirds from daily drivers to “Trailer Queens.” The record for the ITC member owning the most T-birds is an Ohio member with 321 cars. Some ITC members are the original owners of the 1955 T-bird model. ITC members own unique Thunderbirds such as the Princess of Monaco, No. 3 off the assembly line, Lee Iacocca’s brainchild, Limited Edition. Also, the One Millionth Special Edition Thunderbird, assembled at the Pico Rivera Assembly Plant near Los Angeles, CA on June 22, 1972.
Some past ITC conventions brought members and their cars to exceptional destinations including Waukesha, WI; Watkins Glen, NY; Nashville, TN; Lancaster, PA; Charleston, SC; Springfield, IL; and twice at Dearborn, MI. ITC members had the privilege and enjoyed driving their T-birds on the racetracks at Nashville Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Watkins Glen.
As noted, ITC holds an annual convention in different areas of the U. S. every year and draws club members from distant places such as Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rico. The 2014 International Thunderbird Convention is scheduled for beautiful Charlotte, NC. Members will have the opportunity to tour the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Dennis Carpenter’ Ford Restoration Parts among other events. A Concourse Car Show is held during the ITC convention week which includes formal judging with awards presented at the convention banquet. The ITC Chapters, Piedmont Thunderbird Club of the Carolinas (Concord, NC) and the Southern Birds Thunderbird Club (Columbia, SC) are the 2014 convention sponsors. We invite all T-bird owners and enthusiasts to join us in Charlotte, NC, on Tuesday, August 12th through Sunday, August 17, 2014. We hope you can join us!
